How to Crochet a Dandelion or Marigold Flower in 10 Minutes

Today’s “Little Loopy Flower” Pattern Makes the Perfect Crochet Dandelion or Crochet Marigold Flower to Add to your Floral Projects.

Have you ever heard the phrase “Let it be easy?”

The basic idea is that as humans, we tend to overcomplicate things by nature. Sometimes we get stuck doing things a certain way because it’s what we’ve always done, or because it seems like that’s the way it “should” be done.

Today’s pattern reminds me of this because really, this crochet dandelion (or marigold, or little “loopy” flower-whatever you’d like to call it) is nothing more than a simple collection of loops that are worked in the round.

There is a tiny bit of strategy to how the loops(which are made out of chain stitches) are put together, but the whole thing is almost ridiculously simple.

About the Loopy Crochet  Flower

Gauge

The official gauge for this floral series, including today’s project, is 10 rows and 9 stitches for 2x2in using dk yarn and an e/3.5mm hook. It is NOT critical to exactly match that gauge in order to successfully crochet the loopy flower, but that is the official gauge listed.

Feel free to experiment with crocheting this flower in different weights of yarn other than dc. To avoid overly floppy flowers, keep your hook size small enough(compared to your yarn) that the stitches stay fairly tight.

Sizing

Made with the yarn and hook size that have originally been used, this second mini daisy design is about 1.5 inches across. Feel free to play with using other yarn sizes and/or hook sizes to get flowers that are larger or smaller.

Materials Needed

For each tiny flower that you’d like to crochet, you will need:

  • DK yarn- each one of these flowers uses up to 4 yards.
  • An E/3.5mm hook
  • Scissors
  • A tapestry needle(this is optional, but good for weaving in ends.

Skill Level

This flower is worked in the round, but uses very basic stitches and would be suitable for a beginner to try.

Be sure to watch the video tutorial below for full details, and pay special attention to where all those loops start and stop.

Variation Ideas

Some ideas for creating variations with this pattern might be to use different weights/types of yarn, and to experiment with unusual color combinations! For this pattern, this might mean doing each round in a different color, or you might try working one round of the flower in a more textured yarn.
