Are you looking for a simple way to organize your crochet hooks? Like many types of crafters, crocheters are often joking about the hook that “disappears”, but today’s quick pattern offers a simple solution that, honestly, turned out to be even more useful than I expected.

This easy-to-follow DIY crochet hook organizer pattern will help you sort and store all of your crochet tools in one convenient place. With less than 20 yards of yarn and a canning jar, you can easily crochet this versatile helper for your crafting space.

Even if you have a LOT of hooks or traditionally store them in a different way, this handy organizer might just become an essential part of your craft space.

About the Mason Jar Crochet Hook Organizer

Typically, a crochet hook case comes with slots for all of your hooks in a fabric panel that can be easily rolled up and tied. You can also re-create that kind of organizer with patterns like this one pattern. Often though, it’s easy to grab some kind of a mug to store different hooks in.

This pattern takes that kind of easy, vertical storage one step further. By crocheting a top for a jar with separate segments, you can quickly put a hook away while still keeping all of them arranged by size. No unrolling or untying required!

Having spaces of different sizes also means that you can store both large and small hooks in a variety of different ways, and have room for your scissors or other accessories, too.

In my organizer, I ended up using one section for the tiniest, steel hooks. Then for a lot of the most commonly used, medium sizes, I used two sections for each size to hold the multiple hooks that I have. The very biggest hooks each got a section to themselves, and my scissors got one of the larger sections on the outside.

While I knew this design would prove to be useful, it was so handy that I ended up making three for myself: one for traditional hooks, one for knitting needles and tunisian hooks, and one for the shorter double pointed knitting needles. They look so neat all lined up in my little corner studio.

Gauge

No gauge is listed for this project, as the entire organizer is very quick to make. However, the finished piece is designed to best fit on a wide-mouth canning jar.

Sizing

This project is made in one size, to fit a wide-mouth glass jar(which has a diameter of about 3″). I also personally put it on a repurposed salsa jar which also worked beautifully. Using the exact same finished organizer to top these kinds of jars makes it easy to store all manner of “standard” crochet hooks in the shorter jars(think pint-sized canning jars).

Materials Needed

To DIY one of these crochet organizers for yourself, you will need:

  • 1 wide-mouth glass jar (pint sized jars work best)
  • 1 elastic hair tie or rubber bank
  • E sized crochet hook(3.5mm)
  • 12 yards of dk(paintbox dk cotton is shown here in COLOR NAMES)
  • Scissors

Skill Level

As a very quick and easy project, this crochet hook organizer pattern is best for any crochet at the level of advanced beginner or up. While we are working in the round, it’s not crucial to get your starting chain perfect.

The main challenge in this pattern comes in the round where we crochet all of the sections. There is a shorter repeat inside of a larger repeat, which can take a few tries to master if you’ve never done something like that before. On the other hand, this is probably a perfect project to learn with!

The main thing to know is that the smaller repeat is inside of asterisks in the directions below, and the larger repeat is shown inside of the brackets. Having the video tutorial below will go a long way toward helping you complete this, even if you don’t have years and years of experience.
