Learn how to make this cute and practical little purse with chunky yarn in a day.
Let’s talk pouches! In this post I’ll be teaching you how to crochet something very convenient, super cute and a lovely gift to give.
It can feel intimidating for a beginner to start crocheting accessories, especially if it includes a zipper or a little bit of sewing. But I guarantee by following the instructions below, and watching the video tutorial, you’ll get the hang of it in no time and complete this project in just one day!
About This Project
This small purse measures approximately 4×6” which is the perfect size to fit your essential items on a girls night out.
What gives it this unique texture is the waistcoat stitch which basically uses a simple variation of single crochet and produces beautiful results.
It specifically use a really chunky yarn for the waistcoat stitch as it brings out the chain-like look for this pattern, which I love. The other important reason why this stitch is good for bags (things to hold your stuff in) is because it doesn’t stretch as much as the single crochet stitch, and is much sturdier.
Another important note for this project is knowing how to sew on the zipper carefully. But I’ll be walking you through this in the video tutorial as well!

Yarn For the Crochet Pouch Project
It’s very important to choose the right yarn when it comes to making bags or small purses.
You need to choose yarn that is sturdy, durable and can keep your stuff safe. That’s why for this pouch, the really thick t-shirt yarn is perfect for this project.
Even if your t-shirt yarn is not the exact same as mine, you can still do this project. There are many varieties of t-shirt yarns that have different weights, and the size may turn out a little bit different. So you may want to adjust the number of stitches and rows that you do.
Skill Level
I would say this project is for advanced beginners who are eager to take on a more challenging project that involves sewing zippers and learning new techniques.
