A classic looking ribbed beanie that uses the half double crochet stitch (hdc) and a very easy way to make a pom pom!

If you’re here, you’re probably ready to start crocheting your first and favorite hat! Now at a glance, this pattern may look somewhat difficult, but it’s so much easy that you’d think. Even adding the pom pom to it can be done in minutes!
This free crochet pattern is specifically made for beginners who are crocheting their first ever hat or beanie! It uses two of the six basic stitches, which includes the slip stitch and the half double crochet stitch. If you’re still getting acquainted with these stitches, I highly recommend watching the video tutorials that we’ve also included in the posts as it’s important to get comfortable with these stitches before working on this pattern.
Another great and unique thing about this crochet pattern is the pom pom that’s been stitches on! There are different ways to make a pom pom, which I’ve linked above, but the easiest and quickest way to do it is through this pattern, which I’ll demonstrate in more detail below.
