20 Creative and Free Crochet Scarf Patterns

I absolutely love crocheting scarfs! They are the one garment that you can be very creative with and get compliments of its stylish design.

I’ve put together a round-up of 20 scarf patterns that come in all shapes and styles. Sometimes, we’re looking to crochet a simple and easy scarf using the basic stitches, and other times we’re looking for hooded and modern scarfs to go well with an elegant outfit, or a casual night out.

Whatever fashion you’re looking to find, I guarantee I’ll have it in this post! I even listed out scarfs that are unisex and have matching beanies that go with it! Which is the perfect gift to give to a loved one on their birthday, or as a Christmas gift.

How to Crochet a Scarf

The easy thing about crocheting a scarf is unlike most garments, it’s made in one piece. This means that most of the time, you don’t have to worry about seaming different pieces together, which is one of the challenges with garments.

Another great things about scarfs, is that you can make a double crochet scarf in just a couple of hours as a complete beginner!

How to Crochet The End of a Scarf

To crochet the ends of the scarf is a similar concept to crocheting the ends of a tote bag. You’ll just need to crochet a simple border that is typically done with the single crochet stitch. If you’d like just a simple and thin border, then you just need to make one round of the single crochet stitch.

If you’d like a thicker border, then you can do two or three rows of sc.

You can check out the ribbed shawl pattern (number two in this round-up) we have at Amelia Makes that demonstrates how to crochet the border of this pattern.
