Materials Needed
- H hook (5 mm)
- Approximately 12 yards of medium-weight yarn (worsted or heavy worsted)
- Elastic hair tie (standard size)
- Scissors
Abbreviation Used
- Sc: Single crochet
- sl st: Slip stitch
- dc: Double crochet
Before you get started, just make sure you give the hair tie a strong tug to make sure it doesn’t snap easily.
Pattern Direction
Make a slip knot and insert your hook through the hair elastic and pull the slip knot tight around it.
Chain 1 to make sure the yarn is secured on the hair elastic.
Row 1: sc around the hair tie until it’s completely covered. You can aim for approximately 25 sc to start. sl st into the first chain to join the round and finish it off.
Row 2: Chain 2. In order to make your ruffle, dc 3 times into each sc you did from round 1. Continue this around the entire scrunchie. st sl into the top of the initial 2 chains from the very beginning to join the round.
To finish off, bind off and weave in those ends.
